How do we “herd the cats” to identify with the success of the interview beyond unstructured interviewing to ensure best practices? If you have ever tried to advocate, train for, or highlight the benefits of, a structured behavioral interview for example, you may be privy to the nay-saying, eye-rolling, and heavy sighs expressed by experienced interviewers who do not buy-in to the fact that they should refine “how they have always done it.” Such resistance is certainly not universal, but it can be contagious when even a small number of inflexible veteran interviewers provide resistance to change regarding how to interview. Confronting, or preempting, such resistance can significantly enhance the quality of an employment interviewing initiative. The objective of this session will be to address employment interview best practices in the context of interviewers who are, for one reason or another, resistant to these practices. A framework will guide discussion to identify how we can establish buy-in and better articulate, educate, and train for interview best practices. Ultimately, we will attempt to guide our way through critical topics surrounding interviewing to identify Must Dos, Desirables, and If Possibles to provide individual’s tools to walk away with to herd the cats and perform verbal ju-jitsu in numerous areas regarding interview best practices!
What will participants learn? 1) How to identify interview best practices 2) How to create buy-in for the interview beyond unstructured practices 3) How to identify Must Dos, Desirables, and If Possibles surrounding interview best practices. 4) How to better articulate, educate, and train for interview best practices.
