BIO of Presenter: Ariel Donohue was selected to serve as Montana State University’s inaugural Senior Diversity and Inclusion Officer in 2018. Her work includes supporting and monitoring university progress, developing programs to foster an inclusive environment, and driving strategic change towards equity. She has worked at MSU since 2009, first with the Office of Student Engagement before being named director and program manager of the Diversity and Inclusion Student Commons in 2013. Ariel has a master’s degree in higher education from MSU and bachelor’s degrees in women’s and gender studies and elementary education, both from The College of New Jersey.
Presentation Description: As awareness of social and racial inequities grows, many organizations are asking themselves how they can best advance diversity, equity, and inclusion. Research shows that organizations with more diverse employees are more innovative, profitable, and successful. Equity-minded practices support organizations in more meaningfully fulfilling their missions. This session will provide an overview of diversity and inclusion efforts at Montana State University over the past few years and strategies that can be successful in shifting workplace culture, diversifying recruitment, and reflecting on practices that can improve equity and inclusion within organizations.
