The Staff Accountant position is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, supporting financial reporting, performing administrative tasks, and ensuring the duties of the position are carried out in compliance with rules, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures in accordance with Authority requirements.
Compensation:
- Starting pay rate of $32.00 per hour depending on experience.

Major Duties/Responsibilities:
- Performs accounts receivable functions including but not limited to, invoicing and collections, recording payments, reviewing and reconciling accounts, communicating with customers, reporting revenue, and maintaining related documents.
- Maintains lease records and related documentation, assists with contracts, and communicates with tenants.
- Performs accounts payable functions, including but not limited to, coding and routing invoices, reviewing and reconciling accounts, communicating with vendors, reporting related expenditures, and maintaining related documents.
- Performs payroll functions, including but not limited to, validating timecards, preparing payroll, reviewing reports, reconciling, auditing, ensuring compliance, communicating with employees, and maintaining related documents.
- Able to analyze and investigate problems, develop appropriate solutions, take necessary actions and exercise and maintain confidentiality.
- Assists with maintaining fixed asset listings, reconciliations, and depreciation calculations.
- Prepares and maintains various accounting records and reports; assists with generating and analyzing financial reports for accuracy and completeness, and assists in the preparation of financial statements.
- Ensures compliance and maintains fiscal accountability with regard to rules, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures in accordance with Authority requirements, within scope of responsibility.
- Assists with special projects and participates in process improvement initiatives and other ad-hoc requests.
- Performs administrative tasks, including but not limited to, customer service, phone, filing, and insurance certificates.
- Works with internal and external stakeholders, responds to inquiries, provides information and assistance with regard to accounting information and transactions and works cooperatively to resolve issues.
- Provides responsive customer service and engages in effective tenant relations via clear and effective communication.
- Communicates effectively and exchanges information in a professional and positive manner with employees, tenants, concessionaires, vendors, contractors, and the public.
- Participates in the Authority’s Safety Management System.
- Completes required trainings.
- Practices and adheres to the Authority’s policies and procedures and federal, state, and local legal and regulatory requirements.
- Performs other duties as needed or assigned.
Position Requirements:
- High School Graduate/Equivalent
- 18 years or older
- Proficiency in written and spoken English
- 1+ years of experience in relevant accounting-related work
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution (see preferred educational emphasis below)
- Proficient with computer and web-based programs (e.g., MS Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, QuickBooks Online, Bill) and working in a paperless environment; intermediate to advanced proficiency with Excel
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of accounting sufficient to be able to establish, maintain, understand, and interpret accounting systems
- Knowledge of mathematics sufficient to be able to perform statistical computation and prepare reports
- Foundational knowledge of payroll processing and related compliance areas, including wage and hour laws, payroll tax regulations, garnishments, year-end reporting, and recordkeeping.
- Able to be thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail
- Able to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships and communicate effectively with other employees, tenants, concessionaires and the general public
- Able to manage and resolve conflict or disagreements in a constructive and professional manner
- Able to multi-task and perform in stressful conditions with professionalism and efficiency
- Able to read and understand a variety of professional, technical, regulatory and administrative documentation, directions, instructions, methods, and procedures and learn and understand complex subject matter principles and techniques
- Must meet physical requirements necessary to perform essential functions of the position (with or without a reasonable accommodation)
- Must pass a 10-year pre-employment Criminal History Background Check (CHRC) necessary to obtain federally mandated security clearances, badging, and access to the Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport and retain access authority and an active badge with the necessary credentials to perform the essential responsibilities of position
- Must pass a 7-year Pre-employment Background investigation
- Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration educational emphasis (Preferred)
- An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered
Licenses & Certification:
- Be a Notary Public (Preferred)
- Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) (Preferred)
