This program discusses what contributes to cancer survivors exiting the workforce, and what employers can do to retain this important labor market segment.
According to the Cancer Institute, almost 40% percent of men and women will be diagnosed with cancer at some point during their lifetimes. The Cancer Institute also estimates that in 2016 more than 1.6 million new cases of cancer will be diagnosed in the USA, and of these, 44% of patients will be of working age. Although almost 90% of working age cancer survivors are returning to work within 2 years of their diagnosis, only 67% of cancer survivors remain in the workforce 5 years post diagnosis.
Topics covered include:
- Reasons for returning to the workplace
- Return to work barriers
- Social Impact of survivors exiting the workforce
- How to create a culture of inclusion and support
- Return to work transition tips for employers
