BIO of Presenter:
Teri Knutson has worked for the State of Montana for the last 28 years. Since 2007 she has worked with Returning Citizens, and established outreach programs to; Gallatin and Park County Detention Centers (which are the only location where Job Service assistance is available to local detention centers in the state of Montana), the Gallatin County Pre-Release Center, Park County Probation and Parole office and Southwest Chemical Dependency Center.
In 2018 she spearheaded and conducted the first job fair “Jail to Jobs” held at the Gallatin County Detention center. This is the first and only job fair to take place at a detention center in the state of Montana. Jail to Jobs Events now occurs on a quarterly basis and successfully matches employers to the incarcerated population.
As a workforce consultant she meets with an average of 221 individuals with criminal backgrounds on a yearly basis. Part of her efforts include facilitating the enrollment of job seekers into the State Apprenticeship and On the Job Training programs. The results of these efforts have improved employability and increased earnings for this population. Improving employment outcomes and wages has a substantial effect on the individuals’ chances of recidivating, crime and local tax expenditures.
Teri represented Job Service Bozeman as part of the Gallatin County Reentry Task Force. In 2015 she was recognized by the Community Mediation Center as a Peacemaker for her work with Returning Citizens.
Teri received her BA in Communication (Extended Major) from Eastern Montana College, has been a soft skills trainer, is PREA (Prison Rape Elimination Act) certified and is in the process of becoming a Human Rights Trainer through the State of Montana Department of Labor.
